WISE WOMEN MEDIA

WISE WOMEN MEDIA

COMPLETE SHOW DESCRIPTION

REMEMBER, IT'S JUST A CONVERSATION!

The shows on Wise Women Media Radio are in depth profiles and stories that show us that women of a certain age are dynamic forces, empowered spirits and tenacious voices for creating the change we need to see in the world. We cover everything the way our Mothers and Grandmothers would; Environment, Sustainable Living, Art of all genres, Food Storage, Gardening, Crafting, once in a while Political Issues with Special Guests. These women will inspire you! There is no other radio format like this!

We are in Florida so sometimes inclement weather will not permit us to do the show if we lose internet access or power.

Please post here if you have feedback, would like to be on the show, want us to focus on a topic or if you have ideas for future guests.

***We do not promote any specific political party or candidates for any office including presidential. We are more likely to interview female 3rd Party candidates who do not get a lot of airtime through other media outlets.

***The rule we honor is the Golden Rule: we treat others as they would like to be treated both on air and off.

About Karen Morian
Karen Morian was born in Tallahassee and grew up in New Smyrna Beach. She is the proud product of Volusia County public schools and knows from personal experience the possibility for public schools to expose students to the diversity of our society, to afford them opportunities to grow in new ways, and to create cohesion in a community. During her childhood, she saw the damage to individuals and to society of inequality, and she became a lifelong advocate for those who have been denied, denigrated, or excluded. Her father was an electrician, and her mother was a teacher; both were union members and were able to provide quality insurance coverage, something she believes all families deserve. She worked her way through college and graduate school as a work-study student, as a teaching assistant, and at part-time jobs, receiving degrees from Stetson University (BA) and Florida State University (MA, PhD). She then began teaching and working with community organizations.

Professional Experience
Since 1991, Karen Morian has been working with the students of Florida as a teacher and as a mentor to ensure their success in life. She has been an advocate for education funding; for academic freedom; and for the rights of students, faculty, and staff. She has served as a Teaching Assistant and Adjunct Faculty member at Florida State University, Tallahassee Community College, and North Florida Community College and as a full-time faculty member of Florida Community College, now Florida State College at Jacksonville. In addition to teaching and creating new courses of interest to the students at FSCJ, she has written two national grants and served in numerous college service positions including Chair of the Capstone Committee, member of the Faculty Senate, member of the Humanities Council, and as state Senator for the United Faculty of Florida. She has also served as the faculty advisor for student organizations such as the Gay-Straight Alliance and Students for Community Involvement.

Community Involvement For the past three decades, Karen Morian has worked with community leaders and ordinary citizens to better the lives of Floridians. She believes in the relationship of rights and responsibilities and in the power of citizens to work together to improve our communities. To that end, she has served on the Board of Citihomes of San Marco, as both a member and as president. She is a member of WJCT, Stetson Alumni, FSU Alumni, the Central Labor Council of Jacksonville, Northeast Florida Sierra Club, the NAACP, and the Cummer Museum. Nationally, she is a member of the National Education Association, the American Association of University Women, the Modern Language Association, and the National Council on Higher Education. In the past she has worked with various local, state, and national organizations such as the American Friends Service Committee and Habitat for Humanity.

As 3rd year anniversary of the traumatic accident looms ahead next week, Kelley will tell us how she healed, how she celebrates life and she will give us a birds’ eye view on personal courage in times of loss.
